Center for Lifelong Learning
The Center for Lifelong Learning is an expression of the commitment of the Northwest House of Theological Studies to:
- Strengthening congregations
- Supporting leadership development—both lay and professional
- Inspiring new vision for ministry in the Pacific Northwest
The Center continues to sponsor and co-sponsor events that give specific attention to issues that we face in the Pacific Northwest. Our goal is to foster theological education by addressing ethical and theological issues facing the Church and society.
For example, the Center for Lifelong Learning has co-sponsored two events at the 1st United Methodist Church in Vancouver, Washington to strengthen congregations, explore the latest theological and ethical issues facing the Church and society, and address issues relevant to ministry in the Pacific Northwest. Patricia Killen (05) and Mark Shibley (06) addressed the topics related to the “None Zone,” a title given to the Northwest to denote the high percentage of persons who indicate no formal religious affiliation.
The Center also sponsors events that focus on spiritual formation and discernment. In the Fall of 2007 a Spiritual Discernment workshop was offered, co-led by Linda Martin, chairperson of the NHTS Board of Directors, and Steve Lewis.
